Q:

Can someone please identify this lizard?

Recently at a reptile show my fiance fell in love with this little guy, he was sold under the name "sand lacerta" for a hefty $5. When I got him home i started pouring through my reptile books but he shares little resemblance with any sort of lacerta I've seen. Currently he is 5.5" long. Can anyone help me figure out what he is? He loves burrowing and seems to be doing well on crickets, mealworms and has also taken a liking to my crested gecko food. I would like a positive I.D. so I know that we are taking care of him properly.

I could be wrong, but from some looking around it looks like it could be Mesalina guttulata.

Hey that's closer than anything I've been able to find on this. Could be right. It's the scales on the head and the high brows that's throwing me off but then I don't see too many images on babies or juvis.
