Found Worm in Chondro's Water Bowl-- Harmful??
|
|
Okay everyone- I found a little worm type creature in my Requiem's water bowl. This morning, she shed so I was going in to remove said shed and happened to notice there was this worm swimming around in her water bowl.. Her shed was partially in the water bowl, but it doesn't look like she pooped in there, just right next to it.
I want to know if this worm is a parasite or has the potential to be a harmful thing to her.
Here's a picture:

I'm also starting out the whole bioactive/planted cage thing and so it could be from one of the plants... The worm was removed and put in the garbage though.
Any help would be appreciated. :) Thanks!

If your doing the natural thing, it was ok to leave in(the tank..not the water bowl!!). If the worm sought out the water bowl, substrate is too dry for the worm. No worries...go dig up a few more and dampen that substrate and turn it like compost!!

It doesn't really look like a parasitic worm to me, looks more like a small redworm or something. But, I don't know much about parasites, or worms for that matter....

Dont throw out those worms. They are beneficial to the substrate.

If you're using a natural soil substrate then, as everyone's said, it's likely just an earthworm. That said, it's very small and shares many of the same morphological features of some of the parasitic Ascarid species. If it were my snake there would be a quick dose of panacur in order. PM me if you need dosage information.

Looks like a baby earthworm, I wouldn't worry :) Of course I'd move it out of the bowl and into the substrate, lol.
