Q: Color Changes in My Ball
Posted By:

In Relation To:

Koga
I bought my Ball Python, Koga, 3 years ago at a local flea market petstore. The received a group of baby ball pythons from Strickly's Imports in Miami. He had the colorings and markings of a normal Jungle Ball. However, in the past three years, I have noticed a change in his coloring. His dark brown on his dorsal spots turned light brown. High on his sides turned yellow, and the white from his belly has crept up almst half way up his body. All his black marking are still there and have not faded.

His most recent shed has revealed two grey spots on his nostrols, and a grey spot below each eye. There is also a spot, which I call his ear (where an ear would be if snakes had them), that over time had turned form brown, to yellow, to grey. Now it is almost white.

Photobucket His Coloring has me and everyone i know confused. If anyone has any clue on what this is, if you know anyone I could contact and ask, the info would be greatly appreciated. I would offer points but I dotn know how to give them :)

It was suggested to me that he could be a newer morph called a "mudslide"

from those pictures... the most that I can say is that he is a nice high gold BP... one of those special guys that gets a bit lighter with every shed. I have one that is doing this exact same thing. I do not think that your ball is a new morph. That doesn't make him un-beautiful, or un-special. I've got a couple that have random splotches in them... there are a million different flavors of the normal BP! It is normal for the to change color as they mature... most BP's get more dull as they age, some of them change pretty dramatically and some of them get better. He has some nice white flames on his sides, I have a female with those same flame markings!

Bittersweet, in my many years owning BP's, I can tell you this does not seem to me a morph, but rather a change in pigmentation that can happen with I would say, a small percentage of BP's. I have had some of m personal collection get lighter or darker with time, but like I mentioned, a small number of my BP's have showed this. I hope this helps.

Could be a Super or a mudslide or just old skin that didn't totally peel off. Another thing to look at is the fact that some snakes fade with age, or lose one color to earn another. My corn started out with very little orange, and lots of brown. Now as she's getting older, she's a lot more orange and very little brown.
