Q:

80 gallon Breeder slide screen top
|
|
Well, here is a good question on screen tops. I have an 80 gallon breeder aquarium with the track system on top for a slide screen top, but no screen top. I need one ASAP. I tried Big Apple Herp, Pet Supermarket, and some local pet stores, and they did not know what the heck I was talking about. So, 250 points to the first one to give me a VALID source to obtain such screen. Of course, ithe screen would measure 36 inches by 18 inches.

I would go to one of the places that repairs or makes window screens and ask them to make one for you. It would probably not have the angle piece at the front, but you could get a piece of angle aluminium and affix it with 4-5 small screws. Just a thought, The whole thing shouldn't cost $60.

If you go with my idea, make sure to either take the tank to the place you have do the work, or measure VERY CAREFULLY, making sure you allow for sliding space in the track. If your tank is 36"X18", I would subtract 1/8" from the 36" dimension and keep the 18" as close to the tank dimension as possible.

I agree with Jackie. All the stuff should be at your local home depot...measure twice cut once...We have made several ourelves and like them better

Thanks guys, for the responses. I would profer to just buy it made already. I just have an extremely busy life between full time job, keeping dozens of snakes, which is another full time job, and family. I just want to find out where the manufacturer is or a supplier is. I am sure if someone makes the aquarium, then the screen is probably done there too, or maybe a "screen manufacturer" provides it for the aquarium folks, but who knows.

contact a local privately owned pet store. these cages are made by Perfecto Mfg. and the store can special order you a replacement screen. most stores order once a week and depending on onhand quantity at the warehouse they should be able to have it within the week. they wholesale in the 30-40 range so retail depends on their markup.

He's right. We have been able to order replacement tops for critter cages. Does it need to be the type of screen that fits a critter cage? Wow. Never heard of an 80gal. That would be a replacement lid for a 30gal., it's 36 x 18. But if you local pet shops can't supply you, maybe I can get David to order one and send it out to you. ? Just a thought.

It's a slide screen. the aquarium is 75 to 80 gallos, but it does measure 36 inches by 18 inches. I don't have the height right now, but maybe, just maybe, someone has one just like mine out there.

if its a 36x18 then its a 40 breeder not an 80 gallon. same deal with these on how to get a replacement lid but there are two manufacturers of that size so its either made by perfecto (parent company UPG) or its marketed under the R-Zilla name and called a Critter Cage which is manufactured by All Glass Aquarium. the 80 gallon reptile cages are 60x18.

36x18x16 is a 40 breeder. 36x18x18 is a 50 tub. the solid lids wont match the tracks or fit over the edge since the plastic frame is larger on these than on a standard tank. outside dimensions of the frame would be 36 3/4" X 18 3/4" whereas a standard tank is 36 1/2" X 18 1/2"

im a rep for one of the largest pet supplies distributors in the southeast and we stock the lids separately but we dont sell to the public. regardless of where you are its a fairly common item and you best bet would be to contact a local pets store and have them special order it for you. petsmart and petco will not be able to get these since their inventory is ordered through a corporate office based on what is sold on a weekly basis, the individual stores have no control over their inventory.

Wow, I guess if I were so busy I'd opt to buy one too. Have you tried posting this on your local craigslist want list? Or looking on e-bay or Amazon? I know that takes time too but it is a thought.Other wise, yeah the local mom and pop pet store should be able to order it for you.

That souns like a 40 Gallon breeder, and if it's a 50 gallon tall, a lid sold for a 40 gallon breeder would fit it,( I'm almost certain) so try one of those.(they have the same dimmensions.)
