Q: Suggestions on converting Burmese python from frozen jumbo rats to frozen rabbits!

Bobo is 11.5 feet and beautiful!I have no real complaints except he eats jumbo rats still and refuses rabbits!I have fed him a live one once because he turned down a frozen one repeatedly and he never turns down food not since birth! He killed the live one,ate it and then threw it up not 3 hours later! It was only a small rabbit smaller than some of the rats hes eaten so i know size isnt the issue.Does anyone have any ideas how to get my big Bobo too eat rabbits? And i would prefer not to feed him live ever again i just dont want him to get hurt at all!

What breed of rabbit did you feed him if it was a particularly furry variety the hair may have made it regurge.  Usually they just convert over to rabbits when they're ready I've converted a lot of snakes over to rabbits and burms and eastern diamondbacks both seem to just take them whenever they're ready I've never had to do much fancy with those guys.  You could always just try right after feeding it a rat put a rabbit in it's face and maybe you'll get a strike out of a kind of frenzy.

Uh i dont stay or go near Bobo when he eats he doesnt live in a cage he has his own bedroom so what i do is wait til night then put the food in there and close the door he is crazy when hes in eating mode and will strike anything!Im sure he would strike it and maybe even eat it but wont that be overfeeding him?If not then ya im for sure gunna try that!

Nah it would be fine that's a pretty good sized snake feeding it an extra jumbo rat isn't gonna get it fat.

I have a 4 month old burmese male that I just converted to rabbit kits. At first he wouldn't take the rabbit I had to scent it with rats and he took it then. Since he has been on rats for so long yours may need to be bumped up a bit on normal feedings before trying again. The rabbit may be longer than what he's accustomed to sitting in his stomach after a meal. Hold off on feeding rabbits and instead feed 2 rats for a month then switch him over to rabbits. Regurge is usually a sign of stress or illness. Does he have adequate places to hide after a meal?
