Q: Beardies Eye

We are a little worried....last night our beardie had his right eye closed and it seemed to be pretty sensitive. He did open it occasionally and close it right back up again. Anyone had a problem like this with their beardie? I am wondering if possibly he scratched himself or somehow got some sand in his eye. Thanks ya'll!

Try putting him in the bath and gently flushign the eye area with warm water, if there is sand in there that should help. Keep watching for signs of any other kind of issue like swelling or discharge and if that happens it may be time for the vet.

What kind/wattage of UV light are you using and have you made any changes to the lights recently?  If flushing with water doesn't change anything, it could be a light sensitivity issue.  When I changed from a tubing to a coil UV bulb, the coiling was a bit brighter and gave my beardy eye problems.  You can also try increasing the distance between the basking spot and light if that could possibly be the issue.

If you have him on sand, I would start with that. Try moving him on to paper towel or something else non-particle for now, flush the eye like Shellboa suggested, and see how he does. If it persists, move on to lighting and see if changing that helps. Of course, you can do that in opposite order, this is just my opinion... I hate sand for beardies. =P

My brother-in-law's beardie did that when she had sand in her eye.
