Q: Unknown marks on aquarium floor.

Im looking for a semi quick asnwer.  Hopefully within the next hour or so of posting.

I have a large aquarium (im awful guessing gallon sizes, so im guessing around 75?  (at one point i thought it was 155, but thats irrelevant)) that im switching my sub adult boa to.  Previously, a few months ago i kept a smaller iguana from a rescue in there and it did some business.  i didnt keep it in the cage for more than 5 hours before it was moved somewhere else, and eventually got rehomed.  i never used the tank again, and just put it in another room.  at the time, there was aspen bedding in there.

Now, i want to use it, i was cleaning it out, and there some kind of stain? on the bottom of the tank, i bleached it 1 pat bleach 30 parts water, i used antibacterial soap, and i SOS'd it, and it still wont come up.

My question is:

Is this tank safe to use? Ive asked a few people personally, and they said yes, but i want to get a few more opinions.

I would say its fine if you've done all that, but maybe post a picture so people can see what it's like.

It almost looks like hard water stains or some sort of residue. Maybe urate residue? It's probably absolutely fine, but you may as well get off all that you can... -shrug- I say keep scrubbing at it. Get steel wool, maybe, even, and go at it with that.

It looks like its etched from urine or excessive moisture. If you're worried about contaminants, get out the ammonia.

I think it should be perfectly safe if you cleaned it with bleach.

I have successsfully removed a majority of urine stain from glass with plain ol vinegar. Pour it in there and let it sit a while then add warm water to rinse and then hose it out good with lukewarm water and if you want then bleach it again. If the stains don't matter (they will be covered in bedding) then having already bleached it sould be good enough. Remember, bleach has two properties, making clothes white and disinfecting. Hot water makes clothes white, it takes cold water to disinfect.

You did bleach, do Ammonia and everyone should have Maxima256 or similar on hand (which kills everything else).

If you're talking about the white stain on the glass, it's nothing to worry about. Feels "dry" to the touch when running your hand on the smooth glass versus that part of it? I've seen car windshields like that, it's nothing.

Sorry my messenger cut out while I was trying to answer this for you. Normally if you wet the glass and the stains look clear it's possible you might be able to get it out. If not the surface may have gotten a bit porous over time and will be difficult to get out even with the cleaners. You've gotten alot of good suggestions and might even try the same cleaners used to clean glass shower doors. What I'm concerned about and a bit surprised is that I see the glass is tempered. Avoid scrubbing, scrapping or using anything abbrasive on it anymore if possible. Judging by the scratches it's probably non coated. Tempered glass does have it's advantages. It's hardened so it's more resistant to impact. Disadvatange is it shatters into a million pieces versus cracking. If you ever see a small chip or deep scratch it's possible that one day the glass will just shatter for no reason. Not with tanks but I've seen it happen. In my opinion if you already cleaned it and its the bottom of the cage I wouldn't worry about it's appearance. I've had worse looking stains on the faces of some tanks that wouldn't come out. Try cleaning glass while having a big caiman following your hand looking for food LOL.

lol, no thanks jeff =P

Thanks guys, i got alot more feedback than i had hoped!   while im at calss today, im going to let some vinegar sit in there.  if that doesnt remove it, ill try lime away.  if that doesnt do it, im pretty sure its not going to hurt them, so ill clean it up with bleach, then ammonia n let it air out.

thanks guys!  =)

Even if the bottom was crystal clear, bleach, clean it out, then ammonia, clean it out, then 256 and clean it out.
