Q: JCPs in racks
Posted By:

I was just wondering about housing JCPs.  i was under the assumption that they where semi-arboreal so it never hurt to have them in a cage with a little extra height,  but what about if they where in tubs in a rack?

Does anyone keep fully grown adult JCPs in a rack? if so what kind and how big are the tubs?

for that matter what do you use for any size JCP?

WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Why on earth would you buy a beautiful arboreal display animal to put in a tub??!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Babies-two year olds, racks are ok, but an adult? No way on earth would I ever Keep any adult Carpet in a tub, JCP, IJ, Diamond, Bredli, Never should see tubs as adults, they need cages, and they will use every inch of it.

My monster size coastal girls get 6x2x2 cages, the smaller ones get 4x2x2 cages,  Depends on how big your JCP gets to figure out what size cage to use.
Id Suggest not putting them in racks unless of course your JCPs look like crap than Id throw them in tubs :) Hate looking at Nasty Jungles personally

I have my babies in tub systems, and have put sticks in for basking, but I find that they don't "need" it.  My adults are in vision cages

They make pretty big storage tubs with some height to them, so I'm sure you could build them something that may not be permanent, but could last them a few years.

I have to agree with Patrick.  You can keep them in tubs up until 2 years old.  After that, I would move them to cages.  If you are strapped for cash, you could divide a 4footer into 2 spaces for a little while, but eventually adults should have a 4ft cage at minimum.

Most adult carpets should have cages, but many will do fine in racks of the proper size. All of my adult male jungles and diamonds are kept in 41q. racks. or 4 x 2 cages divided into two sections. All of my carpets are raised in racks and then the females are moved to 4'x2'x15" cages once they are of size/age.In all honesty,my males are fed alot less and don't attain the adult sizes of the females. It is not very cost/space effective to place a 5' snake that only weighs 14-1500g. in a 4'x2' enclosure. What I am saying is while tubs may not be ideal for jungles, they are quite adequate so long as they are appropiateley sized.

I keep my carpets in 4 foot cages.

I think the best way to judge what a JCP will look like is buy them from someone you know, and make sure you see what the parents looked like.  If the parents were beautiful, the babies will probably grow up to be beautiful.

Check out Chris Behof here on iHerp.  I think he still may have some for sale.  His are beautiful.
