Q: What screen resolution do you run?
Posted By:

aaron

What screen resolution are you running?

Need to get an updated baseline for what everyone uses. I'd like to avoid dumbing it down to 1024x768.

You can check it thru your system, or this website seems to be accurate for my system.

Points will be awarded to ... uhm... whoever comes closest to the number I'm thinking. I'll give you a hint; it's not Pi.

Mine is very obscure so far as i can tell- 1280 x 800

Maybe its a laptop thing? I have a desktop, but its not assembled and the monitor is a 32in flat screen.

oh Sonja...... you're killin me.

I have stats from google, and 19% of visits are at 1024x768 and I'm not sure if it's 1 person or 1000 people, it doesn't break down by users, it's just aggregate. so maybe you are that 20% of visits :P

I am so not tech savy, but I assume this has to do with your monitor? And to think... I just recently got my parent's old flat screen - which I felt was an upgrade from the HUGE dinosaur one that I had before - that was like 8 years old. But Aaron, if you want me to be the only one, I'd be okay with that! That would make me extra "special", right?! LOL : )

I'm hoping to make the new layout 1280, there's a lot I'm trying to get on the homepage... Designing to 1024 is limiting... More toys on the front :)

1344 x 840 for both of my screens.

Here's a snapshot of some recent traffic to one of my sites:

Resolution | number of hits | percentage of hits

1024x768    344        22.7%
1280x800     332        21.9%
1280x1024     168        11.1%
1680x1050     99        6.5%
1366x768     95        6.3%
1920x1200     93        6.1%
1440x900     80        5.3%
1920x1080     29        1.9%
1280x768     28        1.8%
800x600     26        1.7%
1024x600     25        1.7%
1152x864     21        1.4%
1536x864     12        0.8%
1152x720     12        0.8%
1280x720     11        0.7%
1344x840     9        0.6%

For site builds 960px wide is compatible with old laptop relics and still looks ok on larger screens. I'd personally like to be able to use a bit more horizontal real estate, but the UI finger shakers tend to keep me under 1000px wide.

Aaron, I have the dreaded numbers...on both my monitors.  My question is...how can I change my screen resolution for both, equally?  Is that possible?  If I raise it up, my left monitor will get higher results, with my right monitor remaining the same...wtf?!

I'm at 800x600 on a 42 inch HD flatscreen because I like to drink my own tears from eye strain. Answer your damn question?

Nobody guessed what number I was thinking. In fact, nobody guessed ANY number.

How the hell do I award points for not following directions?
