Q: Humidity in incubator
Posted By:

Mongrel Kitty

Hey guys need some advice.
I have a 15 egg carpet clutch due in about a month, but the eggs at the top of my bundle are starting to dent a little prematurely. I'm thinking due to low humidity. However, the eggs in the substrate are fine and plump and I do not think I need to add water to my eggy substrate.
Any tips for what I can do to help my eggs on top not dry out? Thanks guys.

Depending on how much room you have in your incubator, maybe set a dish of water in there?

put some sphagnum moss over them and mist it periodically

Yes, the misted spagnum moss on the top of them works VERY well for the denting eggs on top. I had to do it with my second clutch of corn snake eggs this year.

Both of the above suggestions work well. Do you have a lid on your tub? That would help hold humidity in also.

what they said. Moss and misting makes eggs fat and healthy :-)

It is not unusual for python eggs to begin denting the last several week of incubation, and I wouldn't lose to much sleep over it. The moss suggestion works well, but I have had great success saturating a paper towel, squezzing out as much water as possible and placing it directly over an unseperated clutch of python eggs.
Good luck and post a pic!!!!!
