Viper [2130]
I have had my viper boa now for just over a month. I looked up how to house her, and when I talked to who I got her from they said I had her husbandry right. However, she is not eating still. I am not to worried yet, but I am looking for suggestions. I have tried once every couple of weeks for the five weeks I have had her. Still no interest in food. Any one have any ideas? Thanks!

what have you tried to feed her? Most of the ones I see are still eating anoles and frogs, it's little rare for them to eat rats, or you have to rub an anole on the mouse or rub anole blood on the mouse or rat. But I could be wrong nd it could just be stressed for some reason or nother. Try talking to breeders that import them alot like Outback or Tom Crutchfield or Mark Lucas. I'm sure they know all the little tricks. Or you can try to dip a mouse in chicken noodle soup or brain it. Anywho, hope this helps

What have you been offering, and how have you been offering it?

Did you ask the person you got her from what they fed her and how they did it?

I have only tried rodents, but i will try anoles or frogs! The previous owner said that she ate mice, but I will be trying something else.

Just make sure that the food item isn't much larger than the snake's girth. You could try live and monitor it if you have to. (if you are doing F/T now). Five weeks isn't a lot time though, so you shouldn't be too worried..

UPDATE: I put in to green anoles and they were gone within the hour!! so... I guess its anoles. Kinda sad, but I gotta do what I gotta do to keep her fed. Thanks! I wonder if other lizards would work, or frogs. You think I could feed her tree frogs found outside?

That is great she ate for you!!!
I would purchase and freeze a few anole or house geckos, and transfer the scent to a pre-killed rodent. You may need to wash the rodent smell off, then rub the mouse with the lizard. If that doesn't work, slice a few pieces of skin of of the frozen lizard, and place it on the head of the pre-killed mouse. Another trick is to break a piece of the lizards tail of and place it in the mouth of the pre-killed rodent, so that  a piece of the tail is protruding from the rodents mouth. The final trick is to mince the frozen lizard and retain all of the body fluids, place in a plastic bag and add a little water. Dip the pre-killed washed rodent in the slurry.

Best of Luck

Yes I like that idea too... However I am unsure I could do it myself!! I may look into prefrozen anoles or something. Kinda like what I do with rats. I can't personally kill them. That's the snakes job with live. But I will buy frozen. Maybe someone sells frozen geckos and anoles. :)
