Q: Frog Tank - Mixing Terrestrial & Arboreal

I am wanting to set up a Frog Viv, and would like to have a variety of frogs. My question is....... Is it safe to mix Terrestrial & Arboreal frogs?

It depends. #1: You have to make sure that each species of frog has its individual temp and humidity requirements met. Then, you have to make sure that the frogs you want are compatible. This means two things: A- That they won't hybridize B- That they won't eat each other. In MY mix species tanks I'll do 1 type of smaller tree frog with one type of dart frog. What did you have in mind??

Actually thats exactly what I had in mind. Just didn't know what frogs were safe with each other.

Ahhh nice. In THAT case here are some ideas. Tree frogs: Clown tree frogs, hyla punctata, Phyllomedusa Tomopterna, phyllomedusa hypochondrialis, or anything that stays small that will enjoy high heat and humidity. Tree frogs to avoid: Amazon Milk Frogs, RETF, Phyllomedusa Bicolor (or Sauvagii, etc. as they get too big). Dart frogs: The choice is yours, but be mindful of which do well in groups. Tinctorius and their subspecies do better in pairs or trios, for example. Leucs and auratus are perfect for bold frogs that do well in groups. Some darts are bolder, some gave a kick ass call, etc. Regardless of what you choose, DO NOT have more than 1 species of the same genus in the same tank! They WILL hybridize!! E. G. 4x Ranitomeya + 2x Tinctorius= ok. 2x Tinctorius + 2x Auratus= FAIL. That make sense?? Lol. Hope I answered your question :D

Disclaimer: If you decide to go with Ranitomeya, just do a mix species dart tank. They're so tiny almost anything will eat them except other darts lol.
