Q: Breeding outcome on BPs

Hello,

I was wondering how to put up the babies of this pairing 100% het Ghost to a Pastel 100% Ghost. I know that if you put two hets together all hets are 66% poss. but with this pairing you get.

Normals, Normals 100% het Ghost, Ghost, Pastel, Pastel Ghost, Pastel 100% Ghost.

The reason ask is if you get two Pastels wouldn't they be 50%? or would they still be 66%? same thing with the Normals?

Sorry if this a simple question but i am just getting into BPs and the genetics thing is still throwing me off. Some are pretty straight forward and others well are kinda of like a brain teaser to me.

Normals and pastels will be 66% het ghost, if you get lucky a pastel ghost. No 100% until proved out.

You will get:

50% normals 66% het Ghost
50% Pastels 66% het Ghost

If you prove out any of the babies to be het, their 66% will change to 100%

Hope this helps ;)

Since both are 100% Het for ghost, I believe you have the possibility to get visual ghosts and normals 66% Het for ghost. With Pastel being a co-dom, you should get some Pastels, and some normals. So, a combo of those would be a Pastel Ghost.  Any animals that don't have the visual ghost trait - ie the Pastels and normals would be 66% poss. het. for ghost.

Der, yep Sonja's right. You should get approximately:

12.5% Ghosts
12.5% Pastel Ghosts
25% Pastels 66% het Ghost
50% normals 66% het Ghost

I think :)

Miss Andrea

I think that's about right abi.

To help you figure out how she got there:
1/4th of the babies should be ghosts, the rest will be 66% possible het.
1/2 the babies should be pastel, the rest being normal.

Combine those two and you get 1/8th will be Pastel Ghost, 1/8th Ghost, 1/4th Pastel possible het Ghost, and 1/2 normal possible het ghost.

The 66% possible is because you won't be able to see a visual difference between the normals and het ghost babies. So until they are proven, they are considered possible hets.

50% hets would come from a het ghost to normal pairing.

this will help with offspring but not percentages. http://www.worldofballpythons.com/wizard/   but its getting better all the time. Directions on how to use the wizard are at the top of the page.
