1) read this  http://www.finegtps.com/Care_sheets.html
2) read this http://www.finegtps.com/Care_sheets.html#PROPER%20CAGING%20AND%20ENVIRONMENT
3) Join this Forum  http://moreliaviridis.yuku.com/forums/63
4) For the first chondro I'd suggest purchasing it directly from the breeder...even though you have done your homework you will still have a myriad of questions, and the breeder should be able to help you with everyone.

mmmmm..Chondros

I would 100% suggest you get an established animal from a chondro breeder rather than an unknown from a vendor at a show. There are tons of questions you'll want answered and having a relationship with a breeder will get you that 24/7 roadside assistance. There are some really nice chondros available on MVF for the same price that you'd find at a reptile show, do yourself a giant favor and buy from a breeder. I'd even go so far as to suggest a yearling rather than a neo, they're a bit more forgiving if you screw up a little bit. Go here: http://moreliaviridis.yuku.com/forums/64/t/Morelia-Viridis-Classifieds.html

Beware: They're very, very addictive! :)

Many reputable breeders sell at the shows. There were many at Daytona...the Chondro coalition is there every year. I'm sure it's the same in Hamburg as well.  Know the local reputable breeders and try to buy from them.  If there's nothing there, contact one when you get home.

Dave Prada-Komodo Reptiles is the only vendor that I recognize that breeds chondros. There could be a few more I am not too familiar with the Hamburg crew.
Are you in PA??

There are plenty of great chondros here http://moreliaviridis.yuku.com/forums/64

ColoradoChondros is Jason Stevens. He is a 100% stand up guy. He does live in Colorado and has some nice animals for sale. Like everyone has said, and I had previously, go CBB from a reputable breeder. I mentioned Dan Schaeffer to you. He is usually at the show...just ask around and you'll find out if he is there.

Buddy, who has posted on this thread, has beautiful animalsavailable if I'm not mistaken. He is 100% without a doubt a person that would be perfect to get a Chondro from.

Please resist the urge to pick up a farmed/import at the show. They will be there, but that is not a good idea for a first Chondro.

I'd personally save the gas money and skip the show in favor of the MVF classified listings. Go through the ads on the first 3-5 pages and you should get a pretty good list of appealing snakes available in your price range. Going that route gives you plenty of time to fully investigate your choices and breeders, unlike the "buy it now or someone else will" pressure that you may feel at a show.

Jason Stevens has several clutches to pick from, stellar chondros, great prices and excellent customer service.

Kim sure knows how to make a guy blush....I several chondros available, but I won't be at Hamburg.

Maybe you should post on the chondro forum link that I supplied above and ask if any of the chondro folks attending could show you around and what you should avoid.

Good Luck

Read Rebecca Fowler's (FowlerHerps) blog from November 10th.  She had a horrible experience with Ben Siegel!

Everyone here has given you great advice. Why not get caging first, and then get your Chondro? Meg,Hamburg isn't  like the major shows. There is some good stuff there, but lots of junk too.  Not too many Chondroheads from the forums selling stuff.

Buddy has a very good point about posting over on MVF and asking. I am usually atall of the Hamburg shows, and if I was able to makeit to this one, I would have been happy to show you around.

Please think long and hard about the Chondro you get. You will see some really cheap prices at Hamburg, but vet bills you will incur for an unhealthy snake will make it not such a good deal after all.

I totally agree with Kim. Spending an extra $100-$200 for the support and guidance of an experienced chondro breeder will be the best money you spend on this acquisition. You definitely want to get your cage set up and have it running for awhile so you can monitor the temps, etc before your animal arrives. These guys are just not that forgiving when it comes to mistakes. If it takes you past the holidays to have that extra money saved up, so be it, there's no reason to rush.

which bring me to my next question best way to house a chondro and heat them?

Depends on what your getting, and how much you have to spend? If its a neo a rubbermaid tub with a couple of zoomed heat pads could work WITH a good thermostat and maybe digital therm. or two to make sure it is acurate. If its a adult/ subadult there are a varitey of cages out there from make it yourself to PVC cages such  as www.repti-racks.com its really up to you what you wanna use or spend, as for heat I always try to use heat pannels whenever I can they are great.
