Announcing iHerp.mobi!!!!!

Posted by Aaron Florian at 12/20/2009 10:08:04 PM

Yes, for the new year, you now have no excuse NOT to do your tracking. And neither do I. So lets all resolve to stay up with our tracking. I've made it easy. So easy, even I can do it.

As with version 1.0 software, use at your discretion, but it seems to be working really really well. And if you have any problems, submit a support ticket.

This SHOULD work with any web based phone, but is optimized toward the iPhone screen. If your phone doesn't work with it, let me know.

So a couple of cool features here: Obviously, all of this works with your existing iHerp account and animals, and will update your animals here accordingly. There are a couple of ways to add tracking items here, each with its own benefits.

ANIMALS BY GROUP
This will track PER animal. And now would be a great time to make some groups in case you haven't already. Groups will help you work through your collection quickly and efficiently.

Each animal has its own page in the group, with tracking for comments, feed, def, shed, all the good stuff. When you go in you'll notice that the animal record to track is prepopulated with the last quantity and food type, as well as the date (presuming you are feeding TODAY). The FED checkbox is checked, so if you're not feeding this one, unclick that box. You can put in whatever else you want and click Save Tracking. This will save this animal, and move onto the next.

Below are options you can select. If you are on a horrible phone connection with poor bandwidth, you can turn off the most recent tracking, you can turn off the images, and this will make your tracking go a little faster. On my connection, I have these on, as performance is still fairly snappy with them on.

Advanced mode is for when you want (or need) to put in different food items, date, whatever. This will switch to more controls for you to put in your tracking. If you keep up with your tracking, the simple mode should work for 99% of what you do.

BATCH GROUP
Okay, okay. I'm not gonna lie: I wrote this feature because I'm a lazy, lazy man. So lazy.

I have my groups set up pretty much by clutches, as well as similar sized animals. When I feed one, I feed em all. So for me, ripping through 15 animals in a clutch individually made me groan. Hence, Batch Group.

Assuming all of your little jerks eat, you simply pick the group, it prepopulates with the last meal (which you can change), and hit go. Ditto with the cleaning, since I spot clean AND clean en mass on the weekends. All of your animals. One click. Tracked. Done.

So, that's the start of the mobile app.

Now go do some tracking. :)

Cheers!

I need a phone that does more than just a phone call, no next, pictures, or web. It's nextel so making phone call is sometimes too much to ask!

If you're having a problem with a Blackberry, make sure you have "Use Javascript" turned on in your settings. If you don't, the pages won't open...

Aaron Florian,
Posted At: 12/21/2009 4:13:46 PM
it works on both www.iherp.mobi and iherp.mobi ... shouldn't matter

Getting an error message with my iPhone 3Gs now

OH MY BEGEEGEES!!!

Aaron Florian,

Unfortunately, apple only allows you to develop on a mac (which blows). Then you have to pay them $100 to get your app into the store. So if $100 people download it, I break even, minus the weeks of development time of course.

Maybe a summer project, but there are much bigger things to tackle :)

Plus this works, works well, and hits more platforms.

Rebecca ,

...Pro?  ;)

Hey, this is great! I just got an iPhone today and was really hoping iHerp would have a mobile feature. Awesome!

TheaN526,

Won't work on my piece of poop phone. LOL. It CAN go on the internet...but sometimes it says it is too big to load the page. I have a crap phone.. Samsung u700 or something.

Aaron Florian,
Posted At: 12/24/2009 2:39:15 PM
If you want to try to get it to work, open a support ticket... you'll have to be my eyes and ears and let me know what pages it crashes, authentication problems, etc

kirk and elizabeth ,
Posted At: 12/24/2009 4:29:03 PM
aaron i would seriously pay you the 100 dollars to get this going as an app i hate writing everything down i hate even more having to remember when everything happened so if i could just click tap my i pod that would make my life 100000000 times better lol i bet many other would buy this app as well i know alot of people who have i pod touches and i phones that would love a fully downloadalbe non internet using app like this one.

dangles,
Posted At: 12/30/2009 2:02:39 PM

yet another situation i would LOVE to learn how to create iPhone apps...

i would likely pay more than .99 for it, too... maybe upward of 9.99? yeah... i'd pay that...

TheaN526,
Posted At: 12/31/2009 1:28:47 AM
Oh it works.. I tried it the other day. Neat. Now I wish I could blog from my phone. LOL.

Dragonberry Geckos / Ben ,

Works very well on my Droid so far. Thanks for coming up with this! The IHerp website was SO SLOW on my phone. The mobile site is very quick and easy.

Brandon ,

Crazy Gecko Gal,

I agree with the app for an android phone. In the mean time, I'm gonna use the web-based version for ease of access. Great idea!

Shawn ,
Posted At: 5/31/2011 5:15:25 PM

Worked great on my Android.

Lindsey Baldwin,

So are we going to see an actual app of iHerp anytime soon?? :-)
