Q:
|
BumbleBee Ball Python Twisting his head?
|
|
In Relation To:
Bumble Bee
|
|
|
My new bee is doing something weird! He's twisting his head in circles, but when you hold him by the tail, he'll just hang looking around?
I'm scared it might be IBD Or does he have a serious case of the Wobble ?
He came to me yesterday after a 3-4 hour drive and put into a tub with heat.
I'm not sure if the spider wobble carrys onto the bee's... Which i have a feeling it might, so i'm hoping it may just be a bad case of the wobble and nothing to serious.
He's in QT as well... Any insight on this subject would be great!
Thanks

I dont know why the wobble couldnt carry on. Its a spider thing. Maybe they just havent been outcrossed enough to get rid of the bad genes.

Wobble does get worse in bee's especially if the pastels were a weak line. Some get better over time, some don't.

Most likely it's the head wobble from the Spider genetics, my understanding is that it tends to minimize or disappear as they age. How old is he? The breeder should've mentioned this to you.
I don't see how the pastel genetics "weak line" would affect head wobble?

ForkedTung ---> I belive he's around a year 1/2 old... They never mentioned anything to me, or are they saying they ever noticed it ... I'm wondering if he just does it because he's gone from such a large tank to a tub and there are more snakes around.
I really hope its just the wobble... and not something serious

Can't help you on what it may be without actually seeing the snake doing what you're describing but like I've said in other questions about similar problems it's not just spiders that get the spins I've seen it in normals so it may very well be that.

It's possible that the breeder never saw it. I've found that a lot of snakes that have neurological issues only get bad when they're stressed, which this guy is right now. Give him some time to settle, maintain your best quarantine practices and see what happens.
I'll bet that he'll be fine in a few days.

I suggest shooting a short video of his behavior. Then, wait a week and shoot another. Having people who have no attachment to this fella watch the videos will be helpful. I would take the videos to your vet and have them give their opinion. Taking him to the vet right now would only stress him further. I have first hand experience in dealing with a nasty virus and there is nothing
scarrier than thinking your animal is sick except knowing it is. Handle him minimally and only disturb him to give him water and check on him. I'd you need a shoulder, mine is here for you. Best of luck.

one other thing - bp's are very insecure if not well-supported, as they are ground snakes. dangling him by his tail is not such a great idea, you know?
good luck with him. he's pretty; he looks like an easter egg :)

Stress tends to bring out the wobbling also. So moving to a new home could have brought it out and the breeder may not have seen it prior. It does not neccessarily get beteer with age. My guess is it just the wobble asociated with Spiders and you have nothing to worry about. Anyone who says they have a Spider or Spider combo that hasnt seen it wobble arent looking close enough or it hasnt been bred. It is common for female Spiders to start wobbling once they lay eggs as it is a stressful event.

Absolutely, any snake that carries the spider gene may wobble. Nothing to worry about at all. The vast majority of them aren't impaired significantly by it, in spite of their quirky ataxia.

Bumblebee ball pythons, along with jaguar carpets sometimes have neuralogical problems, although some have none. Just a curse of the gene

Any ball carrying the spider gene may wobble--they may wobble when they hatch, but grow out of it...or they may not show any sign of it when they hatch, but develop it later. It could get better, or it could get worse, it's not predictable.

It is most likely a wobble related to stress from the trip. And yes any morph that has the spider gene will most likely have a wobble to some degree.
However, stress can make it worse, along with feeding.
